One of the nature's most elusive and dreaded creatures, the infamous giant squid, was finally filmed on tape for the first time ever.
This giant is known for inspiring the great Kraken, as well as many stories of deep sea monsters devouring the sailors from the sunken ships in dark, cold water.
They can reach an astonishing length of 66 feet (20 m) and weight nearly a ton. The particular specimen filmed by the Discovery Channel crew was recorded just off Ogasawara archipelago near Japan about 2,000 feet (700 m) below the sea level.
It was approximately 10 feet (3 m) long and had the scientific community overwhelmed about the very first footage of this mysterious giant. It is also interesting that not so long ago, a mysterious giant eye, probably belonging to another giant squid, was washed ashore in Florida.
