The story of a 160-foot (49 m) giant squid washed ashore on the California coast has officially been confirmed as a hoax.
As Urban Legends points out, several factors give away the reported article as fake. Firstly, the photo was clearly photoshopped using one of the images from a related story back in October when a 30-foot (9.1 m) giant squid had washed ashore in Spain.
Secondly, none of the experts mentioned in the original piece exist or can be traced in the official records. The source's credibility only confirms the hoax stance, as we're talking about a newly established blog that even vows to "never be satisfied with merely printing news but also create news where needed."
Furthermore, the largest giant squid ever recorded was 43 (13.1 m) feet long. If you're not familiar with the story, make sure to check out the original fake giant squid article.
